THE POSTWAR PERIOD. TO LEAVE OR TO STAY?

The space is dedicated to the Post-war history: the emigration of most of the population towards other continents. The gallery of pictures is commented on by an emigrant’s touching words.
The sculpture created by the “compression and stratification” of clothes, personal belongings and elements from everyday life, frames a period suitcase which seems to be almost hanging in this world of memories. On leaving the room, a selection of pictures-symbols of those who chose to remain and, despite the Post-war difficulties, were responsible for the reconstruction.

Text — “I came… as an emigrant. I am alon … and in my heart there’s so much melancholy… noone to give comfort… For the sorrow and homesickness… to be able to return to my beloved land… and to a sweet mother who is waiting for me… I will die if I don’t see you and my Italy .”
